Make the Game Better for Everyone

The OYFL Grassroots Code: Enjoy the Game, Give Respect, Be Inclusive, Work Together, Play Safe

Practical guidance for creating positive, inclusive and well-run grassroots football environments.

Behaviour

Respect the Standard

Good grassroots football starts with the way we behave. The Grassroots Code sets the standard for players, coaches, officials, parents, carers and spectators — helping everyone create a positive, respectful and enjoyable game.

From the touchline

Positive Sidelines

Young players should be able to play, make decisions and enjoy football without unnecessary pressure from the touchline.

Positive Support

Encouragement, respect and good behaviour from adults help young players enjoy the game and develop with confidence.

Smokefree Sidelines

Help create healthier, more positive environments around youth football by keeping the touchline smokefree.

Do not publish U7–U11 match scores or results on social media.

Complaints & Concerns

What Good Looks Like

Parents and carers play an important part in creating a safe, positive football environment. Know who is supporting your child, understand the standards expected at their club and make sure you know where to go if something does not feel right.
